The Bells Taken

Long have they rung.
In times of peace,
they communicated to the people.
—
For a wedding,
they sang,
three for one.

For a funeral,
they bellowed,
one then none.

Soon they were taken,
for a great war loomed.

Then melting of bronze,
to a race now doomed.
